Adventure Learning Week 10 Reflections

We ran out of time to do our Adventure Learning reflections last week, but caught up today before we did our Week 11 planning. Here are our reflections on Padlet.

Learning about Anzac

In Room 8 we have just started learning about ANZAC this week. This week we will be participating in the first Trans-Tasman Twitter chat for kids. Room 8 please discuss these questions at home with your family and be prepared to share your ideas on Thursday. 

Q1. How does your country/school/family celebrate ANZAC Day?

Q2. What does ANZAC day mean to you personally?

Q3. Do you have any extended family that fought in Gallipoli? What stories can you tell us?

Q4. Do you have any extended family that have fought in any other conflicts?

Q5. Do you think ANZAC day is important? Should we celebrate the day? How else could ANZAC Day be celebrated?

Q6. During Gallipoli, Australia and NZ fought side by side. Do you think the relationship between the 2 countries is important?

Q7. Why are poppies sold before and on Anzac Day? Why was the poppy chosen and what does it represent?

Q8. How did the Anzac biscuit originate? Do you have a favourite Anzac biscuit recipe that you would like to share?

Q9. Have you ever been to an ANZAC Day celebration? What happened and how did it make you feel?

Lots of Socks Day!!

Today we all wore lots of socks to raise awareness for World Down Syndrome Day, also known as Lots of Socks Day!! World Down Syndrome Day takes place on the 21 March every year. The date 21/3 represents the three copies of chromosome 21 that people with Down Syndrome have. 

Check out the photos of us wearing socks in creative ways. We even got a shout out on More FM this morning!! Did you remember to wear your socks today?

Miss Gentil also shared a photo of her friend Dan. We think Dan is awesome.

Baa Baa Smart Sheep's Adventure with Josiah and William

Owl Art

In Room 8 we have been learning about pointillism, line and shape. Pointillism is when you form a picture using dots in two or more colours. We used paint to create our pictures of owls. We learnt a lot about the shape of an owl and how to use line effectively in our work. Here are our owl paintings. 

Josiah was awarded a certificate at syndicate assembly today for his fantastic piece of art and natural talent in visual art. We think everyone did an awesome job and love that all our owls are different.

Our First Kidsedchatnz Chat!!

On Thursday we participated in our first Kidsedchatnz chat of the year. Kidsedchatnz is run and moderated by Miss Gentil and six other teachers across NZ. Each week there is a different topic and set of focus questions. It's an awesome opportunity for us to connect with other classes and teaches us positive digital citizenship skills. We had a lot of fun today. Our class Twitter details can be found on the side of our blog.

My Teacher's Secret Life

We watched a YouTube clip called 'My Teacher's Secret Life'. Then we used it as motivation to write our own stories about Miss Gentil. Here is the story that Grayce wrote. 


I know almost everything about my teacher, Miss Gentil. She likes to travel, has lots of animals, likes reading on rainy days, has lived on a farm and hates growling kids.

At school we have to do our best work. We play fun maths games and we read cool class books too. At 3.00 pm we go home, but Miss Gentil stays at school for half the night. She goes to the staff room with the teachers. They all eat sweets like lollipops, brownies, cakes, popcorn, chocolate and ice cream. 

After a long, long snack Miss Gentil plays girly computer games. Then Miss Gentil goes to the hall for a game of freeze tag. Miss Gentil always gets tagged! When everyone is tired the teachers march like a marching band up to the library, where Mr T (the principal) reads all the teachers a book for the day. 

All the teachers are happy and relaxed, so they all go home from a long day of work, even Miss Gentil. No one knows what Miss Gentil does when she goes home. Do you know what she does?
